DEREK SPRING - OWNER/INSPECTOR

Hello!

    From the apprentice carrying the lumber to the supervisor carrying the clipboard, I have worked in the construction industry for more than 30 years. 

    My construction career started in 1990. After I was honorably discharged from the USAF, I enrolled at the Northwest District Council of Carpenters Apprentice & Trainee Program in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.  I worked as a union carpenter for more than 20 years in both the residential and commercial fields.  In 2004, I met my future wife and relocated to Bloomington, IL where I continued my construction career building new construction homes in the Bloomington/Normal community. Some of the larger scale commercial construction projects I worked on locally include The Starplex Theatre, Heartland Community College & the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Normal.

    After the stock market crashed in 2008, union construction work became scarce. This was also the time that my wife and I fastened on our tool belts and started to build our first home.  I also seized the opportunity to explore different aspects of the construction industry. I traveled as far as Anchorage Alaska to assist in the relocation & remodeling of medical dialysis centers, as well as managed operations for one of Illinois' most successful window, siding and door replacement companies. 

    My first exposure to the home inspection industry was in 2016.  It was a perfect fit for my skillset.  I immediately obtained my Illinois State license and after hundreds of inspections, I still thoroughly enjoy what I do.  

    When I’m not inspecting properties, I enjoy playing the bass guitar in a local cover band named Backseat Radio.  And for the last 4 years, two evenings a week, I have been teaching drum set and bass guitar lessons at The Music Shoppe in Normal, IL. I enjoy teaching music just as much as performing!

    And last but not least, I enjoy everything in this life with my beautiful wife Susan Saunders-Spring. Camping, scuba diving, dance classes, travel and more, we do our best to make the most of the moments we spend together in between our equally busy schedules.
